3 key areas to improve the performance of your website

Having a website has become vital for any business, but optimising your site to give your customers the experience they want and increase revenue is key. Here are 3 areas to consider when reviewing the performance of your website:

  1. Responsive design Responsive website design essentially means that your website is developed with a range of devices in mind. This means that your customers get a great experience regardless of the device they use to browse your website. You might be thinking this isn’t a particularly new trend and you’d be right. But here’s what is new and why responsive design is even more important than before:
    • As of 21st April 2015 Google will be taking whether your website is responsive or not into consideration when it chooses how to rank your site on search results. Why not use Google’s mobile friendly testing tool to see how your website works on mobile devices is?
    • Last year mobile web traffic to online shops went up 120%. 54% of consumers were researching online with 35% of them placing an order through their mobile device. If your website isn’t optimised for mobile use (responsive) you’re quite literally losing money.
  2. Less Distinction between on and offline
    Customers want a seamless journey. If they recently placed an order with you online they probably want to be able to email, call, tweet you or even check the app for an update. Omnichannel offerings still aren’t the norm for all businesses and they take a lot of perfecting. But the likelihood is you already have the data to offer your customers a seamless on and offline experience. If you do, make sure you’re using it. if you don’t now is the time to work out how you can capture information about your customers and use it to your, and their, advantage.
  3. Content
    Let’s be honest, content has been a key trend, or area to focus on for years. But that doesn’t make it any less important. When all is said and done you need to make sure you’re pleasing your customers first but Google (and other search engines) second. I’m not going to get into the nitty gritty of SEO, but speak to any SEO expert and they’ll tell you the importance of good quality, reliable and easy to find content.
