What increases your SPAM Score?

By Jessica Heald on Mon 30 September 2013 in Email Marketing

Believe it or not, 40% of marketers don’t know if their email was successfully delivered to their eMail audience. Monitoring if your email has been delivered is becoming even more essential as 75% of emails are now undeliverable because of SPAM filters.

So, how can we get around the dreaded SPAM police?

Well, unless you sit and monitor them every second of every day and night it will be almost impossible to understand the rules applied. However there are a few simple things that can help you along the way…

1)      SPAM filters monitor time frames so the more a word is used the more ‘spammy’ it will become (for example the word ‘unsubscribe’ scores highly as it is now a compulsory option in emails, think of alternative words to use in its place)

2)      If your email scores 4 points or more in SPAM filters it will become undeliverable so monitor what your emails are scoring and what it is that is increasing the score

3)      Don’t ‘shout’ in your email. SPAM filters don’t like ‘shouting’, so things such as bold red fonts will increase your SPAM score
